Ralo is an AI-native mortgage broker for borrowers who want to compare real loan cost instead of being handed one familiar lender.

## What it does

Ralo’s current homepage shows live-looking rate comparisons, a pricing engine, quote reading and a one-form application that can send a borrower to multiple lenders. It ranks loans by real cost rather than the sticker rate and says its compensation is a fraction of a traditional broker’s. [Ralo homepage](https://www.ralo.com/)

The rate display is specific rather than universal. The checked page used a $750,000 loan, 75% loan-to-value, 780+ FICO and a primary residence. It displayed 30-year fixed, 15-year fixed and 5/6 ARM examples and identified the benchmark dates and inputs. The page explicitly says the numbers are sample rates, not loan approval, a rate lock or a commitment.

That is the right level of caution for mortgage software.

## Why I’d look closer

The founders have lived on both sides of the product. The [Ralo about page](https://www.ralo.com/about) says Arjun Lalwani became a licensed loan officer after product work at Google and YouTube, while Helly Shah combines Google Maps and Goldman Sachs rates-trading experience with mortgage licensing. The company says the founders got mortgages themselves and found the process stuck in the past.

The product advantage is transparency. Ralo tries to show rate, APR, points and origination fee together, then lets a borrower compare the real cost. That is a better decision surface than a single low teaser rate.

## What could make it the wrong choice

Mortgage pricing is personal and volatile. A displayed rate depends on borrower inputs, property, occupancy, loan type, credit, timing, lender and market conditions. A sample comparison is not a quote.

A borrower should verify licensing, lender coverage, compensation, rate-lock mechanics, closing costs, data handling and whether the comparison includes the loan they actually need. Ralo says it does not sell borrower data and encrypts connections; those are company statements, not an independent security review.

## My editorial take

I would shortlist Ralo for a borrower who wants to shop financing and understand the total cost before talking to a lender. I would not treat the homepage rate as an offer or use the product without checking the assumptions behind the comparison. The useful bet is simple: make mortgage shopping look more like a transparent marketplace and less like a chain of opaque handoffs.
