Prism is an AI-native recruiting agency. It fits founders who want someone to do the sourcing, outreach and screening work, but who still want to own the interview and the offer.

## What it does

The workflow is easy to understand. You brief Prism in Slack. It finds and engages candidates, runs screening, and hands over a shortlist. [The YC launch post](https://www.ycombinator.com/launches/QOK-prism-ai-native-recruiting-agency) says the commercial model is a $500 retainer to start a search, followed by 15% of first-year salary when someone signs. That puts Prism closer to an agency with software leverage than to a recruiting SaaS tool with a seat price.

## Why I’d look closer

The technical wedge is people search. Prism says it built an in-house search engine, calibrates on a hiring manager’s feedback, and can run many searches in parallel. Its [public benchmark paper](https://tryprism.com/papers/people-search-benchmark.pdf) is described in the launch material as scoring 89.6, more than 21 points above published baselines. That benchmark was published by a direct competitor, according to Prism, so the number is a company-reported interpretation of a public benchmark—not an independent review of Prism’s service quality.

The founders’ backgrounds fit the search problem. [The YC profile](https://www.ycombinator.com/companies/tryprism) describes Theo Kitsberg’s Cambridge/MIT Media Lab work and Axel La Pira’s Oxford/Alan background. The bounded public search surfaced [a founder hiring post](https://www.linkedin.com/posts/hashimmufti_prism-yc-p26-is-hiring-prism-yc-p26-activity-7467740066346455040-gv7L) describing Prism as a YC-backed company changing how recruiting works; it did not surface a neutral customer review.

## What I’d ask

Which roles and markets are actually covered? How are candidates calibrated? How much human recruiting remains behind the scenes, and what happens when the first shortlist is wrong? The public homepage is sparse, so the launch post carries much of the product and pricing detail.

## My editorial take

Prism is interesting for a startup that has a real role open now and wants to buy an outcome, not another recruiting dashboard. I would not evaluate it from the benchmark alone. Give it one hard role, define what “qualified” means before the search starts, and judge the candidates—not the pitch.
