What it does
HumanLayer groups tasks, agent sessions, worktrees, research, designs, plans, mockups, and code changes in one workspace. Its current product runs agents locally or on remote daemons, lets teams comment on artifacts, and keeps high-level orchestration visible while still exposing tool calls and diffs (HumanLayer homepage; YC profile).

Why it fits
The product's useful distinction is keeping thinking attached to execution. A research note, design decision, implementation plan, and agent session are not separate tabs; they become reviewable artifacts connected to the change. That is especially useful when several agents work in parallel or when a team wants a human checkpoint before implementation becomes a large diff.
The tradeoff is process overhead and infrastructure responsibility. A buyer should resolve repository isolation, daemon credentials, remote-worker networking, agent permissions, artifact retention, and how teams migrate existing Claude Code, Codex, or custom harnesses. HumanLayer's docs describe short-lived launch tokens and local credential flows; deployment security still needs review (remote daemon docs). Pricing was not visible in the reviewed sources.
Horthy's founder context fits the wedge: YC describes seven years at Replicated across engineering, solutions, product, and GTM for self-hosted developer infrastructure, plus earlier NASA JPL work (YC company profile).
Short version: HumanLayer is worth trying when the bottleneck is coordinating agents and preserving engineering judgment. Start with one multi-step repository workflow and see whether the artifacts reduce review friction or add a new layer to maintain.
