F4 Industries analyzes engineering drawings for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing before a design reaches production. It fits hardware teams that need deterministic review of PDF and STEP packages, local handling of sensitive files and reports that manufacturing and inspection teams can share.

## What it does

[F4’s current product page](https://f4.dev/) lets engineers import PDF and STEP files, validate GD&T against ASME Y14.5, inspect datum reference frames and tolerance zones, run interface stack-ups and export redlined drawings and FAIR tables. The company says processing happens locally and that the analysis uses deterministic algorithms rather than AI. That is a meaningful choice for teams that cannot upload design files to a cloud model or need the same input to produce the same review.

The product is aimed at a specific production decision: is the drawing clear, manufacturable and inspectable before release? F4 says it catches common GD&T issues, calculates stack-ups from the drawing and guides engineers to the problem. Its export surface is also practical; a reviewer can hand the result to downstream quality or manufacturing workflows instead of leaving the finding inside a chat interface.

## Pricing and founder context

The site shows three commercial paths: F4 Review for organizations that want expert drawing reviews, F4 Pro for individual users and F4 Enterprise for teams. It does not expose numeric prices in the retained observation. Support for export-controlled data is marked coming soon, as are custom rule checks, design-for-manufacture and design-for-inspection rule checks. Those availability labels should shape a technical evaluation.

The YC profile identifies Paul Shin as CEO, with mechanical-design work on Tesla production parts and earlier rocketry work, and Aidan Cantu as CTO, with avionics test engineering at SpaceX. Their backgrounds are relevant to the drawing and hardware problem; they are not proof that F4 covers every company standard or drawing package.

## What could make it the wrong choice

The buyer needs to confirm file formats, ASME interpretation, tolerance-stack assumptions, export requirements and how the local app fits the existing PLM or CAD workflow. A deterministic analyzer can make review more repeatable, but it cannot decide design intent that is absent from the drawing. The “coming soon” list also means enterprise coverage is still expanding.

## Editorial take

I would shortlist F4 for a hardware team that spends real engineering time redlining drawings and wants a local, auditable first pass. The best proof is one representative drawing package with known review findings. If the team mostly needs a general PDF viewer or has no repeatable GD&T review process, the specialized platform will be harder to justify.
