Elayne turns estate settlement into a guided workflow for families, executors and attorneys. Its strongest fit is an active estate where documents, accounts, probate steps and family coordination are scattered across too many people and inboxes.
What it does
Elayne’s homepage combines a document vault, a step-by-step roadmap, estate inventory, probate forms and a search across more than 100 financial sources. It also lets families invite attorneys, track estate expenses, apply for an EIN and work with an estate expert. The public product is not just planning content; it is organized around the administrative work after a death.
The pricing is unusually concrete for this category. The pricing page shows a free starting tier, $500 for estate setup, $3,000 for asset discovery and $6,000 for estate closing. Elayne says the service can be charged to the estate, or reimbursed later if the estate account is not open. That makes the buyer decision easier to frame: pay for the phase that removes the current bottleneck rather than commit to a broad software subscription.
The company reports more than 1,000 families, executors and attorneys using the service and more than $5M found through its Verified Asset Search. It also advertises an average $4,500 in attorney time saved. These are company-reported outcomes, not independent measurements. The public page says financial and document data is encrypted and not sold, while the legal FAQ makes clear that a buyer should still understand where Elayne’s workflow ends and an attorney’s advice begins.
Founder context and tradeoffs
The YC profile describes Adria Ferrier as a former large-cap private-equity investor who experienced the estate problem after losing her mother. The launch identifies CTO Jake Graf as a former Truebill product and engineering leader. That combination explains the focus on financial detail and consumer-grade workflow design without turning founder history into proof of results.
The tradeoff is operational trust. A family still has to provide sensitive documents, make judgment calls and coordinate with institutions that may require their own forms or authorization. Elayne can reduce the administrative surface, but it cannot remove jurisdiction-specific deadlines or the need for professional advice.
Editorial take
I would shortlist Elayne for an executor who needs a single operating picture now, especially when an attorney or family member must stay in the loop. The phase pricing and human expert option are strengths. The question is whether the estate is complex enough to recover the fee through missing-asset discovery and reduced administrative work.
