cocreate: verified media preparation for high-volume video teams
cocreate combines verified media ingest, transcoding, organization and NLE handoff for editors, DITs and production teams.
Published · Updated
cocreate is for production teams that lose time before editing starts. It combines media ingest, verification, organization and preparation so a camera card can become usable editorial material without a separate chain of manual handoffs.
What it does
The current cocreate homepage says the product reads slates, syncs audio by timecode and waveform, detects multicam setups, transcribes footage, builds stringouts and exports to Premiere or Avid. It also describes watched folders, multiple destinations, checksum reports, verified copies, atomic publishing and background transcoding for formats including ProRes, DNxHR, H.264, HEVC and AV1.
The buyer is not “anyone who edits video.” It is an assistant editor, DIT, post supervisor, UPM or production team handling enough footage for ingest and dailies to become a recurring bottleneck. The company’s YC profile says it was built alongside editors and production colleagues, and its on-set case description explains the intended workflow from footage arrival to synced dailies.
Why I’d look closer
The strongest advantage is the paper trail. Cocreate says it reads, hashes, verifies and then publishes copies, with receipts and manifests that can be handed over as CSV, MHL, JSON or offline HTML. That is a better operational promise than “AI edits your footage”: the team gets faster preparation while retaining a way to inspect what arrived and where it went.
The tradeoff is workflow dependence. Storage must be mounted, metadata and timecode must survive the round trip, and the exported project has to match the team’s exact NLE preferences. These are company-described capabilities, not an independent integrity or speed benchmark. Pricing is not published in the checked pages.
What I’d ask
Which storage layouts, codecs and NLE versions are supported? Can a team stop or resume an ingest without leaving ambiguous copies? How are permissions, retention and deletion handled for production media? Before using it on a real show, can the team run a controlled pilot on owned footage and compare the manifests, proxies, sync and project export with its existing handoff?
My editorial take
Shortlist cocreate if media prep is stealing time from a high-volume post workflow. Its useful wedge is verified preparation, not a vague promise of autonomous editing. I would start with one repeatable ingest recipe, keep the original media untouched, and require the team to approve the receipts and NLE round trip before expanding the workflow.
