Cardboard: an agentic video editor

Cardboard turns raw footage into editable cuts, captions, reframes, translations and polished exports through an AI-native browser editor.

Published · Updated

What it does

Cardboard is an agentic browser video editor for growth and marketing teams. Users give it footage and a goal, ask for a first cut or variants, search clips by meaning, refine the timeline and export captions, reframes, translations and polished video. The YC profile describes the problem as slow editing and review loops; the current homepage shows the editor and creative utilities.

The fit is a team that has plenty of footage but cannot ship enough short-form, testimonial or launch video. Cardboard is not just a prompt-to-video tool. The useful part is the timeline editor, footage search and collaborative production context around generated cuts.

Why I’d look closer

The product surface is concrete: find quotes, reactions and scenes across long footage; remove dead air; reframe for vertical, square and landscape; generate captions; translate and dub; clean audio; then direct the edit with prompts. Pricing is public. The pricing page lists Creator at $32/month, Pro at $120/month and Teams custom, with usage limits, extra credits from $10 and a three-day trial.

The founder context matches the technical challenge. The YC biographies describe Saksham Aggarwal with AI-product, evaluation and growth experience, and Ishan Sharma with high-performance browser systems, HackerRank and creative-tooling experience. The company says one hour of video can render in about five minutes; that is a company claim worth testing against real footage and export settings.

What I’d ask

How does Cardboard preserve edit decisions, source clips and rights across a generated cut? I’d run one long interview and one multi-format campaign, measure first-cut quality and revision time, and inspect storage, model usage, caption accuracy and team collaboration before moving a production pipeline in.

My editorial take

Cardboard is a strong fit for growth teams whose bottleneck is editing velocity, not idea generation. The browser-native editor and public pricing make a contained test easy. The proof is a faster path to a usable cut without sacrificing editorial control.
