Cactus is for HVAC, plumbing, roofing, electrical and other trades businesses that are already buying leads but lose revenue when calls, web forms and old estimates sit unanswered. Its product combines AI answering, booking and outbound follow-up around the contractor’s existing CRM.

## What it does

Cactus’s current site says every call is answered, leads are responded to in under 60 seconds and appointments are booked directly into Housecall Pro, Jobber, FieldEdge or ServiceTitan. It also advertises web-form response, live transfer, spam blocking, estimate follow-up, dormant-customer reactivation, referral asks and a lead-to-revenue dashboard. [Cactus homepage](https://www.oncactus.com/)

The advantage is that Cactus treats missed demand as a revenue problem, not only a phone problem. A contractor can capture after-hours calls, work unclosed estimates and re-contact past customers without hiring another coordinator. The current homepage shows a sample ROI calculation and customer testimonials; those examples are company-selected and should not be read as a guaranteed payback.

There is a meaningful product evolution to understand. The earlier YC launch described an AI assistant for solopreneurs such as chefs, photographers and trainers, while the current YC profile and homepage focus on trades. The current trades product is clear, but a buyer should confirm which workflows, integrations and service levels are included in the present offer. ## What to check

The integration and handoff rules matter more than the slogan. Ask how calls are qualified, when a live transfer occurs, how estimates are updated, how spam is filtered and how the agent handles emergency or out-of-scope work. The public pages do not publish a standard price in the checked sources; the company’s blog advertises a pricing guide, but the commercial decision still depends on call volume, average job value and CRM quality.

The [YC profile](https://www.ycombinator.com/companies/oncactus) identifies Ajith Govind as a 2x YC founder with a prior CPG software company and Avinash Joshi as a longtime software builder. That context supports the operating focus, not the revenue figures on the site.

## My editorial take

I would shortlist Cactus for a trade business with measurable missed calls, open capacity and a functioning CRM. Start with after-hours and overflow calls before turning on reactivation or referral campaigns. If dispatch is already full, job data is unreliable or the owner cannot review exceptions, more booked leads may create a different operational bottleneck.

## Quick facts

| Main fit question | Are missed responses, not lead volume, limiting booked work? |
