Autonomous is trying to turn financial advice into an always-on operating layer.

## What it does

The current [company homepage](https://becomeautonomous.com/) describes a secure financial vault that monitors assets, learns a person’s goals and surfaces the next decision. Its examples cover concentrated stock, tax-loss harvesting, 401(k) contributions, private-company liquidity, cash, taxes, estate planning and charitable giving.

The product pitch is coordination. A normal investor has accounts, equity, cash flow, taxes and insurance in different places. Autonomous says it wants to reason across that whole picture instead of giving another isolated portfolio recommendation. The YC profile describes the offer as a financial advisor with 0% advisory fees; the homepage presents the workflow and examples, not a verified performance record.

## Why I’d look closer

The founders have a relevant infrastructure background. The YC profile describes Dillon Erb and Daniel Kobran as former cofounders of Paperspace, the GPU-cloud company acquired by DigitalOcean in 2023. That explains why the company talks about a frontier reasoning engine and a full-stack financial system rather than a simple investing dashboard.

The public site also makes the intended handoff visible. It shows proposed actions such as drafting an email to an accountant, modeling a staged diversification plan, or flagging an outdated estate document. That is the right product shape for sensitive decisions: surface the issue, show the reasoning and give the person or professional a chance to review it.

## What I’d ask

This is a financial product, so the public examples need careful reading. I would ask what is informational, what is advisory, what can actually be executed, which accounts can be connected, how conflicts and errors are handled, and where a human adviser or tax professional enters. I would also want the fee schedule beyond the headline 0% advisory-fee claim before comparing it with an existing adviser.

## My editorial take

Shortlist Autonomous if your financial life is complicated enough that the spreadsheet is the problem: multiple accounts, equity, taxes, private investments and decisions that interact. It is not a product I would evaluate from a mock portfolio card or a single market view. The interesting question is whether the system can keep context across the full financial life while making the human’s final decision clearer.

This is a company description, not financial advice or a recommendation to move money.
