Altur: Omnichannel AI collection with human escalation
Altur runs voice, WhatsApp and SMS agents for debt collection, payment negotiation, follow-up and call-level compliance monitoring.
Published · Updated
Altur runs voice and messaging agents for debt collection and banking sales. It fits lenders, banks, fintechs and contact centers that need coordinated outreach, payment negotiation, follow-up and call-level quality control across Latin America.
What it does
Altur’s current site describes a debt-collection operation managed by AI agents. The system segments accounts, chooses channel and timing, makes phone calls, follows up through WhatsApp and SMS, negotiates payment options and keeps the account context across interactions. Its own telephony infrastructure is positioned as a way to control latency and cost.
The operational advantage is continuity. A customer who promises to pay Friday should not have to restart the conversation with a new agent, and a lender should be able to see whether the protocol was followed. The site also advertises automatic A/B testing, call grading and real-time monitoring. These are product claims; a buyer still needs to validate recovery, consent, complaint and regulatory outcomes in each market.
The YC launch reports more than $6M collected in Mexico using AI agents during its first six months. That is a company-reported operating claim. The public docs describe phone and WhatsApp campaigns, unified inboxes, human escalation and analytics. Pricing is usage-based per minute with a monthly minimum, or an outcome-based option with a platform fee and success component.
Founder context and tradeoffs
The YC profile identifies Luis Olave as CEO and Pedro Fernández as CTO. The launch says they spent two years operating in Mexican debt collections, first with WhatsApp chatbots and then voice. That experience is relevant to localization and collections operations, but does not remove the need for country-specific legal review.
The buyer should ask how consent, identity, dispute handling, payment security and call recording are managed. Altur says it has ISO 27001 and audit logs; those are vendor claims to validate. The product can make outreach cheaper and more consistent, but an aggressive optimization loop can also optimize the wrong customer experience.
Editorial take
I would shortlist Altur for a lender with a defined delinquency segment, enough volume to measure recovery and a compliance team involved from day one. Start with one market and one delinquency stage. If the lender cannot define an acceptable conversation and escalation policy, more autonomous calls will create risk faster than value.
